Chemical processing can enhance the rate of nutrient release and the fertilizing properties of these silicate minerals. As an example, alkaline hydrothermal alteration of K-feldspar with CaO has been shown to be an option to engineer fertilizers from local and …
The rate of K+ leaching from soil minerals such as K-feldspar is believed to be too slow to provide agronomic benefit. Currently, theories and methods available to interpret kinetics of mineral processes in soil fail to consider its microfluidic nature. In this study, we measure the leaching rate of K+ ions from a K-feldspar-bearing rock (syenite) in a microfluidic environment, and demonstrate ...
A creative approach for the hydrothermal decomposition of K-feldspar for the extraction of potassium (K) in mixed alkaline solutions containing NaOH and CaO pretreated by microwave was studied. Under the same processing conditions, a systematic comparison of microwave pretreatment and traditional hydrothermal reaction showed that K+ dissolution efficiency was 95% when the mixture …
Analysis of K-feldspar in the by the 40Ar-39Ar method can give information on the very latest perturbations in the area since K-feldspars have multiple, low closure temperatures, ranging from about 150° to 300°C. These multiple diffusion domains require temperature-time modeling to fully interpret argon release spectra.

Feldspar works as a fluxing agent, lowering the melting temperature of quartz and regulating glass viscosity. Plagioclase Feldspar and K-Feldspar are two different types of feldspar.
of feldspar are soda feldspar (7 percent or higher Na 2O) and potash feldspar (8 percent or higher K 2O). Feldspar-silica mixtures can occur naturally, such as in sand deposits, or can be obtained from flotation of mined and crushed rock. The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code for feldspar processing is

This paper describes an environmentally friendly and efficient milling-assisted technology to produce soluble potassium from natural K-feldspar with the additive of calcium salts, and capture CO 2 via mineralization. The milling-assisted process could facilitate the extraction of potassium from K-feldspar under mild conditions (e.g. 30–40 °C), and mineralize CO 2 with reacted calcic slag.

The amount of K leached from the mixture is relatively constant across all processing conditions. Hydrothermal alteration in autoclave of K-feldspar-bearing rocks such as ultrapotassic syenite permits the synthesis of a potential potassium fertilizer which alkalinity and mineralogy can be tailored according to soil requirements.
12%The dissolution (weathering) and processing of K-feldspar are the subject of dedicated reviews [5,6,7,8,9]. In acidic soils, thermodynamics favors the weathering of K-feldspar to secondary minerals (e.g., clays). However, due to kinetic limitations, such processes are observed only at geological timescales [4, 5, 10, 11].
Compositions. The feldspar group of minerals consists of tectosilicates, silicate minerals in which silicon ions are linked by shared oxygen ions to form a three-dimensional network.Compositions of major elements in common feldspars can be expressed in terms of three endmembers: . potassium feldspar (K-spar) endmember K Al Si 3 O 8 albite endmember NaAlSi 3 O 8 ...
Quartz and feldspar are the two most abundant minerals in the continental crust. The rheology of quartz and feldspar has been used to approximate the rheology of the upper and the lower crust, respectively. However, compared with quartz and plagioclase, the rheology of K-feldspar (Kfs) is much less characterized. We present here systematic axial compression deformation experiments on a ...
11.27 Feldspar Processing 11.27.1 General1 Feldspar consists essentially of aluminum silicates combined with varying percentages of potassium, sodium, and calcium, and it is the most abundant mineral of the igneous rocks. The two types of feldspar are soda feldspar (7 percent or higher Na O) and potash feldspar (8 percent or higher K O).
An optimized process of the hydrothermal treatment of potassium feldspar (K‐feldspar) and lime to obtain a potash alternative is reported. The optimization did not change a two‐key‐step process and only modified the first step, in which K‐feldspar was calcined together with calcium carbonate. However, this modified treatment greatly improved the dissolution of K‐feldspar, and the ...
Orthoclase, or orthoclase feldspar (endmember formula K Al Si 3 O 8), is an important tectosilicate mineral which forms igneous rock. The name is from the Ancient Greek for "straight fracture," because its two cleavage planes are at right angles to each other. It is a type of potassium feldspar, also known as K-feldspar.The gem known as moonstone (see below) is largely composed of orthoclase.
Feldspar. Feldspar is the name given to a group of minerals distinguished by the presence of alumina and silica (SiO 2) in their chemistry. This group includes aluminum silicates of soda, potassium, or lime. It is the single most abundant mineral group on Earth.

Another possible explanation for the observed heterogeneity is that it is inherited from original heterogeneity in alkali elements in chondrule mesostases (e.g., Grossman and Brearley 2005): the initial feldspar grains could have crystallized with heterogeneous distributions of K and Na, and subsequent thermal processing might not have been ...

This mineral is often called potassium feldspar or K-feldspar because potassium always exceeds sodium in its formula. Potassium feldspar comes in three different crystal structures that depend on the temperature it formed at. Microcline is the stable form below about 400 C. Orthoclase and sanidine are stable above 500 C and 900 C, respectively.
